What does a Postpartum Doula provide?

Emotional Support

  • Listening to your needs and concerns patiently and without judging, recognizing that this is a time of emotional vulnerability for the whole family, but particularly for the mother.
  • Helping you process your birth or adoption experience.
  • Supporting your parenting style.
  • Offering a list of resources specific to your needs.

Physical Support

  • Making suggestions to improve your comfort and recovery after birth.
  • Helping you learn to care for your new baby. For example, assisting with breastfeeding or bottle feeding, bathing, diapering, and cord care.
  • Doing light housework and meal preparation.
  • Providing sibling and pet care.
  • Coordinating family and friends to support you.
